VC permeates the MyTeam manner again, also. This mode functions as a fantasy-esque build-your-own-team endeavor where you earn card packs to unlock players among a roster which spans multiple NBA eras. MyTeam can be attractive for long-time basketball lovers such as myself who have Allen Iverson teamed up with Anthony Davis and can take this fantasy team roster into single-player or multiplayer matches. However, the loot-box character of making card packs--that can be acquired by gradually earning MT points via fresh avenues like challenges, seasonal events, and turning into useless cards, or even by buying them with VC--leaves the dependence on VC unsurprisingly egregious.
MyGM, which places you into the shoes of a team's General Manager, is a style worth mentioning. It's a sports management simulation fantasy, but changes here are just skin deep. You will undergo awkwardly animated and written dialogue scenarios to handle relationships in your business --such as the way I chatted to RJ Barrett about how he used to play clarinet in order to improve his sanity stats, or became the yes-man of head coach Tom Thibodeau to keep him happy. MyGM's menus are also flooded in a way that makes it hard to browse and get a grip of how to spend your limited time and resources throughout the season. I have enjoyed this mode previously with its RPG-like sensibilities, but it is one that needs a serious revamp.
I will run down every other manner of play or feature from NBA 2K21, but I would really only be going through the laundry list of items we have seen in years ago --although I do want to point to the continued inclusion of the WNBA. It's a fantastic feature for fans and those who wish to familiarize themselves with WNBA teams and players. Where this falls short is the WNBA is relegated to only season drama, and the addition of female participant production is just featured in the upcoming next-gen variations of the game.
NBA 2K21 proves that the only basketball sim we've now has mostly stagnated. It is a complete package, for sure, but one which shows little-to-no motivation to improve upon itself. That doesn't eliminate the strong foundation which makes NBA 2K a fun and rewarding time. However, when you go through the same grind and the exact same process with only superficial modifications, you simply get burnt out faster than years prior. If ball is still life, NBA 2K21 is as good a version as any to pick, but even the best ballers require a rest. The case involved a copyright action brought on by Strong Oak Sketches Inc. to enforce exclusive rights acquired from artists who failed tattoo work for LeBron James, Kenyon Martin and Eric Bledsoe. In the case, Solid Oak Sketches sought damages under the Copyright Act from Take Two Interactive Software Inc. for containing reproductions of the the supposedly copyright-protected tattoos on avatars for James, Martin and Bledsoe in the popular NBA 2K video games.
