Calcite in Minecraft is finally becoming a complete building material! With Minecraft 26.4 Snapshot 7, Mojang introduces a dozen new decorative blocks that allow players to use this white stone in many different ways.
Until now, calcite was mainly appreciated for its light texture, but its building possibilities were limited: it was impossible to craft matching stairs, slabs or walls.
This limitation disappears with the arrival of Polished Calcite, Polished Calcite Bricks, pillars and many other building variants.
Here is how to obtain calcite, discover its new blocks and craft all the recipes introduced in Minecraft 26.4.
Where to find Calcite in Minecraft?
Calcite is a white mineral block introduced in Minecraft 1.17 during the Caves & Cliffs update.
It naturally generates in several locations:
- Amethyst Geodes: calcite forms a layer between the amethyst blocks and smooth basalt.
- Stony Peaks: it appears as natural bands across mountain landscapes.
- Ice Caves: introduced in the Minecraft 26.4 snapshots, these caves also contain calcite formations.
To collect calcite, simply use a pickaxe, even a wooden one. No special equipment is required.
With these new building possibilities, calcite becomes a much more valuable resource to gather in large quantities.
Minecraft 26.4: all the new Calcite variants
Snapshot 7 introduces 12 new building blocks divided into three families.
Regular Calcite
The original calcite block now has four new variants:
- Calcite Stairs
- Calcite Slab
- Calcite Wall
- Calcite Pillar
These blocks retain the characteristic appearance of calcite while allowing players to create much more detailed buildings.
The pillar is particularly useful for creating columns, frames and architectural details.
Polished Calcite
Polished Calcite is a new variant featuring a smoother and more refined texture.
It also comes with its own building variants:
- Polished Calcite Block
- Polished Calcite Stairs
- Polished Calcite Slab
- Polished Calcite Wall
This new texture is particularly suitable for modern buildings, temples and structures using white materials.
Polished Calcite Bricks
Finally, Minecraft 26.4 introduces a third family called Polished Calcite Bricks.
It includes:
- Polished Calcite Bricks
- Polished Calcite Brick Stairs
- Polished Calcite Brick Slab
- Polished Calcite Brick Wall
These blocks feature a masonry pattern, making them ideal for facades, walls and monumental structures.
The French names used for these blocks are descriptive, as not all of the new blocks had received official French translations when the snapshot was released.
How to craft Polished Calcite in Minecraft?
The Polished Calcite recipe is particularly simple.
Place 4 Calcite blocks in a 2 × 2 square in a crafting table.
This produces 4 Polished Calcite blocks.
To craft Polished Calcite Bricks, the process is identical:
Place 4 Polished Calcite blocks in a 2 × 2 square to obtain 4 Polished Calcite Bricks.
You can also use a Stonecutter directly, without going through these intermediate crafting steps.
All the crafting recipes for the new Calcite blocks
| Block to craft | Required materials | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Calcite Pillar | 2 Calcite blocks stacked vertically | 2 Pillars |
| Calcite Slab | 3 Calcite blocks in a horizontal row | 6 Slabs |
| Calcite Stairs | 6 Calcite blocks arranged in a staircase shape | 4 Stairs |
| Calcite Wall | 6 Calcite blocks in 2 rows | 6 Walls |
| Polished Calcite | 4 Calcite blocks in a square | 4 Blocks |
| Polished Calcite Bricks | 4 Polished Calcite blocks in a square | 4 Blocks |
For the slab, stair and wall variants of Polished Calcite and Polished Calcite Bricks, the recipes follow the same patterns as regular Calcite. Simply replace the original material with the corresponding block.
These recipes therefore follow Minecraft's usual crafting mechanics.
The Stonecutter: the most resource-efficient solution
The Stonecutter becomes particularly useful when working with calcite.
It allows players to convert a Calcite block directly into different variants without crafting each intermediate material.
With a single Calcite block, you can obtain, for example:
- 1 Calcite Stair
- 2 Calcite Slabs
- 1 Calcite Wall
- 1 Polished Calcite Block
- 1 Polished Calcite Bricks Block
The biggest advantage concerns stairs.
With a regular crafting table, 6 Calcite blocks produce 4 stairs. With a Stonecutter, each block directly produces one stair.
For large construction projects, this method can save a significant amount of resources.
Why use Calcite in your Minecraft builds?
With its new variants, calcite becomes a particularly versatile building material.
Its white color makes it easy to combine with other blocks, such as quartz, diorite, different types of wood or copper.
It is especially suitable for building temples, palaces, modern buildings or villages with light-colored facades.
The new slabs and stairs also make it easier to create detailed roofs, window frames and transitions between different materials.
On a creative or survival Minecraft server, these blocks offer plenty of possibilities for improving constructions without requiring mods or custom textures.
Are the new Calcite blocks available in Minecraft 26.4?
Important: these new blocks are currently available in Minecraft 26.4 Snapshot 7, not yet in an officially released stable version.
To try them, select the latest snapshot from the Minecraft Java Edition launcher.
Since snapshots are testing versions, we recommend using a separate world or making a backup of your existing world before experimenting.

Calcite finally becomes a complete building material
With Minecraft 26.4 Snapshot 7, Mojang addresses a long-standing request from players who enjoy building.
Calcite is no longer simply a decorative block found in Amethyst Geodes. It now includes pillars, stairs, slabs, walls and two new main texture variants.
Thanks to the Stonecutter and easy-to-remember crafting recipes, these new blocks should quickly find their place in players' creations.
Minecraft 26.4 therefore introduces an entirely new palette of white building materials, particularly interesting for architecture enthusiasts and building communities.
