Minecraft 26.3: What’s new in Snapshots 1, 2 and 3

The development of Minecraft 26.3 is now well underway with its first three snapshots. After the 26.2 update focused on underground exploration, Mojang is shifting the atmosphere and focusing this time on biomes, decoration and player comfort.

These early test versions introduce a new forest biome, additional building materials and several items designed to improve campsites and outdoor adventures.

Snapshot 1: a new forest to explore

The main feature of the first snapshot is the arrival of the Dappled Forest.

This new biome offers an autumn-like atmosphere with warm colors and new vegetation. Players can discover:

  • new Poplar Trees
  • fallen poplar trees
  • several colorful leaf variants
  • mushrooms growing directly on tree trunks
  • decorative red shrubs

This new forest mainly appears near cold biomes and provides an ideal environment for both explorers and builders.

Abandoned camps

The Dappled Forest also introduces a new structure: abandoned camps.

These small campsites contain various chests and barrels with loot, giving players another reason to explore the biome early in an adventure.

They also strengthen the narrative aspect of the world, leaving players to imagine the story of their former occupants.

More building possibilities

Decoration lovers also benefit from several new additions.

All wool colors now have:

  • wool slabs
  • wool stairs

These new blocks keep the acoustic properties of wool while offering more possibilities for buildings, furniture and detailed decorations.

Snapshot 2: rendering improvements

The second snapshot is much more discreet in terms of gameplay.

It mainly introduces a new graphics option designed to improve the handling of transparency effects in Minecraft Java Edition, while also optimizing certain mob behaviors when players are far away.

This update prepares the ground for future graphical improvements while improving general performance.

Snapshot 3: cushions and straw beds

The third snapshot continues the comfort theme with two new items players will likely appreciate.

Cushions

Cushions can be placed in the world and finally allow players to sit down directly in Minecraft.

Available in 16 colors, they immediately become an excellent decorative element for houses, taverns, village squares or campsites.

Straw beds

Straw Beds offer a new way to spend the night.

Unlike regular beds, they allow players to sleep without changing their respawn point. This makes them perfect for long expeditions, temporary camps or exploration-focused adventures.

An update focused on exploration and decoration

These first three snapshots clearly show the direction Minecraft 26.3 is taking.

Rather than introducing new creatures or deep gameplay systems, Mojang is gradually enriching the world with:

  • a new biome to explore
  • a new wood type
  • new natural structures
  • more decorative blocks
  • new objects that improve immersion and building possibilities

Minecraft 26.3 is shaping up to be an ideal update for players who enjoy exploring, building and creating more lively environments.
