Minecraft Bedrock: play on a Minecraft Java server with Geyser

Playing together on Minecraft has not always been easy. For a long time, Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition players were separated and unable to join the same server. Today, thanks to Geyser, this limitation no longer exists.

Geyser allows Bedrock players (console, mobile, Windows 10/11) to join a Minecraft Java server without changing the server gameplay. It has become an essential solution to open a server to a wider audience while keeping the Java ecosystem (plugins, mods, performance).

What is Geyser?

Geyser is a compatibility proxy that bridges Minecraft Bedrock Edition clients with Minecraft Java Edition servers. It translates network traffic between the two editions in real time.

This means the server remains 100 percent Java, Java plugins and mods continue to work, and Bedrock players can connect as if they were playing on a native Bedrock server.

Geyser is now widely used on community servers, semi-RP servers, survival servers and minigame servers, as it allows players from consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, Switch), mobile devices and Bedrock PC to join the same world.

Why use Geyser on a Minecraft server?

Installing Geyser on a Java server offers several major advantages:

  • Unify Java and Bedrock players on the same server
  • Expand your community by welcoming console and mobile players
  • Keep the Java ecosystem (plugins, Paper, performance)
  • No client side modification is required for Bedrock players

It is the ideal solution if you manage a private server with friends or a public community and some players do not own the Java Edition of Minecraft.

Allow Bedrock players without a Java account

By default, a Minecraft Java server requires a valid Java account to connect. However, when you want to allow Bedrock players to join, this restriction must be removed.

The key option: “Allow Bedrock without a Java account”

When installing Geyser, or at any time from the server properties, you can enable the option “Allow Bedrock without a Java account”.

This option is essential because it allows Bedrock players to connect without owning a Java account, automatically installs and configures Floodgate, and securely handles Bedrock authentication.

What is Floodgate and what is it used for?

Floodgate is a companion plugin to Geyser. It allows Bedrock players to authenticate without a Java account, assigns unique identities to Bedrock players, and clearly distinguishes Java and Bedrock players on the server.

With Floodgate, a Bedrock player joins using their Microsoft account, while Java players continue to use their standard Mojang or Microsoft Java account.

On OMGSERV, Floodgate installation and configuration are fully automatic as soon as the option is enabled. No manual configuration is required.

An ideal solution for community servers

Combining Geyser and Floodgate turns a Minecraft Java server into a truly universal platform, supporting Java Edition, Bedrock PC, consoles and mobile devices.

Everyone can play together on the same world, with the same rules and progression. It is one of the best solutions available today to create an accessible, modern and open Minecraft server without sacrificing the stability and performance of the Java ecosystem.
